Remembering to Draw

An Angry Old Man
In this world of digital art, with its infinite levels of undo, pixel precise bezier curves, opacity masks, and slick vector smoothness it’s nice to sit down and just draw. Remember? Draw? Just like we all used to do back in art class.
Ok, well not exactly like art class, but since I have a Wacom drawing tablet I thought I’d try using it instead of lead and dead trees. I love my Wacom and use it frequently in Illustrator and Photoshop, but rarely as a pure drawing/painting tool mimicking that of the traditional pencil. These days, I mostly find myself working on web projects which involve a lot of photo-manipulation and vector whizz-bang graphics in full technicolor, and as a result I rely heavily on the pen tool, shape tools, and selections more than anything and I rarely just sit down and draw for the heck of it. The truth is I’ve never been what I would consider a very gifted person at drawing. I think I’m competent, but nothing exceptional. After this though I may start making myself just sit down and draw, it felt very good.
