Me

That's me taking a break from designing. P.S... I like both kinds of music, Rock & Roll

I am a designer, or more accurately a maker. I’ve been involved with the creative arts and surrounded by the creative process my entire life. I’m a musician, an audio/video engineer, a graphic designer, and web developer. I couldn’t imagine a life without making things. The first part of making things better is to make things.

I love solving problems, challenging myself, making games for myself and always seeing what could be done with less. This desire to tinker, meddle, tweak, and manipulate our world’s shape, color, and space is something that I just can not shut off. There is always a better way, a new discovery just around the corner and I live to absorb these tiny epiphanies and grow day by day as a designer and a person.

Working primarily as a web designer these past 5-6 years, I’ve become a deep admirer and follower of the art of programming. I’ve developed a solid mastery of HTML/CSS and I’m growing as a javascript developer. I’m also comfortable working with and around server-side languages like PHP and Ruby. While my skills are currently geared more towards design and the presentation layer, I’m working hard to grow as a programmer and I’m constantly exploring the latest libraries, frameworks, and methodologies. I read the books, and go through every tutorial I can find. Basically, I’m hooked, and there is no turning back. My most recent obsession over the last couple of years has been aimed squarely at the programming language Ruby, and as a result of working with Ruby and it’s various web frameworks, I’ve also discovered new ways of working with HTML/CSS like HAML and SASS.

It’s an exciting time we live in. It may be a little quiet right now, but the innovation that the web and it’s varying languages will bring is just now underway. As mobile and tablet applications are becoming more and more relevant, there is a whole new world of applications just waiting to be written and while our technology landscape is changing there is a great opportunity for developers and designers alike to really re-imagine the interface and what a “desktop class” application is. There’s a kind of new enlightenment that is taking place in the web developer world and I love being here, making things, now.
